About Edinburgh Science Triangle
Purpose
Edinburgh Science Triangle is a
multi-disciplinary partnership aiming to promote the city region as
a world-class science destination. It is a pioneering collaboration
of universities and research institutes, science parks, local
authorities and the national economic development agency
Scottish Enterprise.
The economic objectives are to attract new
investment and build a scientific community with unrivalled levels
of interaction and knowledge exchange between academic research and
industry.
What we do
The partnership provides a supportive
community and offers access to knowledge and expertise, resources
and facilities, new technologies, accommodation and services,
business support and networks across the scientific spectrum – from
the environmental consultancies and the Institute of Petroleum
Engineering at Heriot-Watt Research Park to the bioincubators at
Roslin BioCentre and Edinburgh Bioquarter. As well as these
examples there is a myriad of high-technology firms – software
development, nanotechnology, clean-tech, renewables and more.
The Easter Bush Campus brings to one site The
Roslin Institute of the University of Edinburgh, the Moredun
Research Institute, the Animal Sciences Researchers of the Scottish
Agricultural College and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary
Studies – forming one of the largest groups in the world focussed
on the biology of companion and production animals.
The People
The Edinburgh Science Triangle Team works to present these
differing disciplines to a wider audience, including potential
investors, development agencies and potential tenants, while
stressing the importance of technology and knowledge transfer in an
environment ideally suited to growing technology firms.
The project is supported by Partners and
part-funded by European Structural Funds.
"The Edinburgh city region is a leading
international destination for scientific research and innovation.
The area accounts for roughly two-thirds of Scotland’s spend on R
& D and we have our fair share of success stories."
